The TCJS provides grants to Duke, NCSU, and UNC faculty and graduate students to help defray the costs of research-related travel to Japan.
GRANT AMOUNT:
Op to $2,500 for travel and accommodation. (Please note that the Japan Foundation, which funds this award, prefers the following split: $100 for travel in the US, $900 for international airfare, $250 for local travel within Japan, and $1250 for accommodation and meals in Japan. Some small divergence from these amounts is allowed, but no more than 20%.)
PRIORITY GIVEN TO:
- TCJS faculty members
- Faculty who have not received travel support from the TCJS recently
- Junior faculty members
DEADLINES:
Applications are accepted twice a year; with deadlines set for October 1 and February 1. Travel must take place between July 1, 2011, and June 30, 2012.

Please submit a proposal with:
- A statement of your funding needs, including the cost of transportation, lodging, and registration. Please state any other funding sources available.
- A one paragraph abstract (100 words or less)
- A fuller description of the project (max. 2 pages)
- An estimated budget including, if applicable, other funding sources.

The proposals will be reviewed by the Executive Committee. Each recipient is required to submit a short summary of the research accomplished with the grant by June 30, 2012. The funds awarded must be used by June 30, 2012. Please remember to keep all receipts!
