Staged Reading FlyerDuke Asian American Theater (DAAT) is proud to present a Staged Reading of scenes from Asian American Plays. One scene each will be read from “China Doll” by Elizabeth Wong, “12-1-A” by Wakako Yamauchi, “Tea” by Velina Hasu Houston, and “FOB” by David Henry Hwang. Start the night with the first Chinese American movie star Anna May Wong as she teaches a blonde actress how to act exotic. Next, travel to a Japanese internment camp in Poston, Arizona where a family must decide to which country their allegiance truly belongs. Jump ahead several years to discover the lives of Japanese war brides living in Kansas after World War II. End the night with a humorous scene in which a Chinese American college student tries to make a Chinese exchange student more American. Don’t miss out on an opportunity to explore Asian American history and identity in the past century!
Organized by Prof. Claire Conceison (Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, Theater Studies) and sponsored by the Department of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies.
